More than 40,000 children and young people from Paraguay have been assisted by the Fundación Alda since its creation in 2003.

The close relationship with Paraguay of the founder and president of Arum Group, Jordi Robinat, led in 2003 to the birth of the Fundación Alda, an NGO that helps children, adolescents and young people from vulnerable areas of this Latin American country to have a better life and receive a quality education, thereby helping the communities of which they form part.

In its 18 years of history, the Fundación Alda has assisted more than 40,000 children, adolescents and young people, more than 10,000 families and more than 2,000 teachers in Paraguay through various projects, such as ‘Alda Educa’, ‘Joven Adelante’ or the ‘Centros de Atención a la Comunidad’.

In 2003, and as a result of his personal and business relationship with the country, Jordi Robinat promoted the founding of this NGO, which during the difficult year 2020 alone managed to generate a positive impact on 8,896 children, adolescents and young people, 3,742 families, 293 teachers and 43 schools in nine districts of Paraguay.

Robinat, also founder and president of Arum Group, a company specialising in resort management – such as the exclusive La Manga Club in Murcia and Abama Resort Tenerife – thus shows his gratitude, commitment and solidarity with this South American country where great social inequality means that 24.2% of the population is poor, and 4.8% live in extreme poverty.

In Paraguay 28% of the population are children and 27% are youth. About 16% of enrolled students do not complete Basic School Education, and almost 58% of young people do not attend any educational institution. Moreover, for every 10 children who enter basic education, only three complete secondary education and enrol in university, and of the latter, only one completes higher education.

In the light of all this data, the ‘Alda Educa’ project of the Fundación Alda, with almost 20 years of experience in local environments, has developed, implemented and perfected what is now called the “Alda Socio-educational Model”, in a consolidated project that enjoys great prestige in the educational sector of the country.

Alda Educa’ accompanies the educational centres accompanying and facilitating training spaces for teachers and contributing to the improvement of the equipment and the state of the infrastructures, in the management and educational standards. Within this specific project, from 2003 to the present, Alda has collaborated with 58 schools, and with more than 12,000 children.

Another project, ‘Community Care Centres’, also has a strong link to education, providing non-formal education services, with activities that contribute to personal development, community building and family training on the biopsychosocial development of children. This project also provides working mothers with a safe space where they can leave their children during their working hours, and provides training and personal care services, food and nutritional care, ensuring the fundamental rights of children from a holistic approach.

Joven Adelante’ is another of Alda’s great programmes, which consists of sponsorship and accompaniment focused on Paraguayan adolescents until the completion of secondary education, so that they can successfully continue their path towards higher education. It is a process that begins four years before the age of university entrance, offering accompaniment and tutoring in various academic areas and activities that complement institutional training such as public speaking techniques or knowledge of other languages. Joven Adelante’ also organises trips for teenagers to get to know different parts of Paraguay, with the aim of opening their eyes beyond their home town or city.

In addition to the three projects mentioned above, the Fundación Alda has developed other projects against gender violence and child labour. In parallel, the NGO also aims to influence the improvement of the quality of education in Paraguay through the country’s public policies.

The Fundación Alda, whose headquarters are located in Deià (Mallorca) works tirelessly, with the firm belief that quality education will generate greater opportunities to improve the present and future lives of children, adolescents, young people and local communities, thus advancing towards social justice.

Throughout these 18 years, Arum Group, led by Jordi Robinat, has organised charity events to raise funds for Alda, also giving visibility to the Foundation through its social networks and its website. Alda is financed by Arum Group and by donations from individuals, private companies, public institutions and private cooperation entities.
